How many of you have tried to get multiple tasks done all at once?

How many of you have succeeded in completing them properly till the end?

How many times have you succeeded in completing tasks altogether?

Multitasking simply means to have a lot of tasks done at the same time in the wrong order – without prioritizing them. It’s the worrisome situation where you have six things to complete immediately. You go back and forth, checking every task and instead of fully completing one of them, you end up having all of them undone.

This panicky attitude gets you nowhere. You lose your focus and even make errors along the way because you’re not focusing in getting things done the right way.

So, you’re sitting at your desk worried with your mind swirling around, still wondering: how in the world will you ever get all of the tasks done at once you will get them all done at once. That’s when you will sound like Helena Bonham Carter who says, “Multitasking? I can’t do two things at once. I can’t even do one thing at once.”

The good news is; you CAN multitask. The bad news is; you will only be able to do it once or twice a time with a lot of blunders. You also lose your focus because while you’re finishing your first task, you’re in a hurry to hop towards the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth. So in between you make mistakes and very silly ones.

This does not only harm your work but it also affects your brain because it gets stressed when you multitask. William Stixurd, a Ph.D Neuropsychologist says, “The brain is a lot like a computer. You may have several screens open on your desktop, but you’re able to think about only one at a time.”

Here’s the best way to handle multitasking: make a quick decision and prioritize. If you have three tasks placed on your desk and you have three more coming in, you’re going to have to decide quickly which one to do first according to the time it will consume. It’s better to have three things done in an hour in order, rather than having five things sitting on your desk with you biting your nails.

So, from now onwards learn to prioritize and decide quickly.

“I have a dream” – these words have gone down in history as the embodiment of a burning desire for a glorious future, where the ideals and values that one has established shall bear fruit. Originally made famous by Martin Luther King Jr. in a speech that emphasized the commitment to the pursuit of happiness by the oppressed African-American population, these words still ring true almost half a century later.

In today’s world of cutthroat market competition and sudden booms and busts, interspersed with the so-called bubbles, undertaking a new business initiative can be a daunting task. There can be as many as 20 different things that an aspiring entrepreneur would have to take into account. Though considerations such as legal issues, finances, insurance cover and operating capital naturally come into play, issues such as the fundamental question of why one would want to start a business in first place are quite paramount; And of course the million dollar question, whether your idea is worth all the weight that you are intending to throw behind it. This and other elements of uncertainty deter many salaried employees who are clocking their hours day in and day out like corporate workhorses.

Hence what really matters in the rat-race world of today is being really savvy about what the milieu of the wired lot is most inclined towards. The stories of Michael Dell and George Lucas have become almost clichés. Yet the crux of their accomplishments very much transcends the decades and their legacies are at the forefront of their respective industries of computer manufacturing and movie production and special effects. What makes them stand out is the fact that their seminal ideas were very personal to them and they developed an entire belief system around their visions. They dared to dream and they are still getting their just desserts.

“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”

Benjamin Franklin

Drrrrrring….! There goes your alarm clock telling you to get up.

We all wish we could wake up early in the morning but fail to do so. Why? There are two reasons:

Merely wishing will never make you wake up early.

You’re not following some rules.

Getting up early has its own benefits and we all want to acquire them. The most important one is to eat breakfast which most of us skip cause of waking up late.

Here are some ways you can get yourself to wake up early in the morning:

No Drastic change in time

If you get up at 7 a.m. and wish to wake up at 5 a.m., don’t start waking up two hours before your usual time. Take it slowly. Start by waking up 10-15 minutes before your normal routine and get used to it. Increase 15 minutes in a week or two. You’ll gradually start waking up early and achieve your goal time.

Go to bed early

Everyone tell the other person to do this but everyone fails to follow this advice. It’s very important to sleep early though very few people realize this. You might be awake at night surfing the TV channels, the internet, or even completing your work. What you should do is put away everything and hit the bed between 8 and 9 p.m. If you aren’t sleepy then read a book or a magazine in bed, until you nod off. If you’re actually tired then you’ll fall asleep immediately.

Try avoiding sleeping late over the weekends too. It’s hard to do; but it’s doable.

The old alarm clock tip

If you place your alarm clock or cell phone with an alarm on, you’ll shut it as soon as it rings. That’s why place your alarm clock far from where you sleep. When it will ring, you’ll have to get up and hit the snooze button. By then you’re awake-all you have to do is stay awake. And you do that by heading towards the bathroom for a cold shower.

Don’t THINK

Don’t rationalize whether you should head back to bed or not. Don’t let your brain talk you into sleeping a little more. You’ll never be able to wake up early like this. Cross out the ‘getting back into bed’ option.

Morning tasks

Have some good reasons to stay awake in the morning. Have some morning tasks done like, writing, reading, praying, exercising – a task that will motivate you to become an early riser.

Forcing yourself

In the beginning, this can seem as if you’re forcing yourself to do this. But it’s for your own benefit and health. To avoid the forceful feeling, get up and do something pleasurable. Water your garden, feed your pets, prepare lunch for your kids, greet the joggers in the park and have a little morning stretch! When you find pleasure in doing something you won’t feel being forced to wake up early.

Don’t waste time

We all wish we could stop doing this for once. Well, now you can make the effort to avoid it by spending the morning meditating, reading, do the laundry, or vacuum the house. This way you’ll get most of the things done within an hour or two when most people consume the entire day for chores like yours.

Remember it’s possible only if YOU think it is.

Have a great day!

You can’t truly be considered successful in your business life if your home life is in shambles.”

Zig Ziglar

This quote is precise and doesn’t need further elaboration. Success is achievable for those who believe in it. It requires aims, ambitions, dreams, passion and a plan. Merely wishing for success will lead to oblivion. You have to focus on your work to be successful.

Work is an important part of life. There are people all over the world who are obsessed with their work. They worship their job and are labeled as workaholics.

It is admirable to be passionate about whatever it is that you do but becoming insane about it yields an unbalanced life. Eventually, you are hackneyed after you have grown tired of your maniac self. You become exhausted and wish your life was just a vacation on Earth.

Basically, you are on two extremes: first you were a workaholic and forgot you had a life that needs you too, and as the years passed by all you want to do now is, squander it away. Both situations are unacceptable.

Your work does not compose your life; it is a part of it and should be kept that way.

You want to be successful, work day and night for it, but you shouldn’t forget that there are other things in life that also count such as your health, sleep, family and peace. If you neglect them now, they will ignore you later in life when you really need them. That is why you need to balance your life-starting now.

Creating a balance doesn’t mean you equally divide your day into two halves by dedicating 12 hours of it to work, and the other 12 to your life. There is no specific formula for a work-life balance but there are ways to prioritize it.

Start with a schedule and stick to it. Time yourself and try not to get caught in things that waste your time, whether it’s a discussion or a habit. You have to work according to your routine. Everything else is secondary.

Life is erratic and so is your work. Don’t get confused if an unexpected task comes knocking on your door. Immediately, figure out how long it will take to complete instead of wondering what to do about it. You could’ve completed ten minutes of that work within the time you spent pondering about it.

Don’t comprise on sleep. Go to bed early and wake up fresh. Finishing a task late at night is okay once in a while but there’s no point working late every night because you won’t be bright the next morning. Your day will be ruined by sleepiness and exhaustion. So don’t disregard your bedtime.

Spend time with your family, exercise and relax. Go out with your parents, siblings, spouse or kids and enjoy your time out in the open.

Work out, because it helps you stay alert. You can jog before or after work. Hit the gym for a while even if it’s not necessary.

Relaxing doesn’t mean sleeping your day off on the weekend. Read a book, tend your garden, lend a hand in the kitchen or the garage, go out shopping or just sit on a bench in the park and breathe. Feel the world around you.

Remember, you’re blessed with one life; be successful with a balanced life. Make it worth watching for yourself and others.
