Believing in the art of living, I have been forever curious to understand the ancient art of feng shui. I researched on its origins and the ways/principles of living it emphasizes upon. Feng shui is basically an art and science developed 3000 years ago in China. It encompasses a study or knowledge of balancing energies that inhabit a given space to ensure a better living.

The word “feng” means wind and “shui” means water. Both the things in Chinese culture are associated with good fortune. It is through a Taoist vision that great emphasis is laid upon the energy present in nature, believing that chi, meaning energy, is filled around us and the land is alive with it. Such energy can make or break an individual or their capacity to live a fulfilling life.

Although the true knowledge of feng shui is deep and complex in its understanding here are a few basic tips that if practiced are known to bring about the right energies in your immediate surroundings.

Following tips should be taken in consideration when choosing the color scheme of your home.

Color is the easiest way to shift the energy in your space with feng shui. But before one gets to find out which colors to place at what points in your home it is important to know the 5 elements known in this art form.

The balance in these elements produces the right harmony in your living space. These elements are of Fire, earth, metal, water and wood.

Fire element:

Fire element in your space activates your own personal energy, it helps achieve recognition in your efforts. The colors are red, orange, purple, pink and strong yellow. Feng Shui wise the fire colors are needed in your south, south west and northeast in your house. The colors can be either in a form of large paintings, furniture or could even be chosen for a featured wall.

Earth:

The correct balance of this element is known to bring stability in your relationships. The colors are sandy and earth colors of light yellow and ochre hues. These colors are ideally meant to be placed in the centre of your home, as well as north east and south west of your home.

Metal :

The metal element brings about the mental energy within your space that helps to enhance the focus, clarity and precision. The colors that help enhance such qualities are white, greys and almost all metallic shades. These colors are ideally meant to be placed at the north and west sides of your home.

Water:

The balanced water element in your space will bring calm, renewed energy , trust and purity within your home. The colors that bring about such energies within are denoted by blue and black and should be placed at the north and east side of your living space. You can either place a painting that displays the water in itself or a slight hint of blue could bring about the desired effect.

Wood:

The fifth and the last element of the feng shui is of wood. A balanced wood element brings about abundance and vibrant health in your life. The colors are wood brown and lush green. The colors are ideally suited at the east and south east of your home space with a fresh lime green color can prove to be an excellent theme for an office or a living space in your home.

Apply these colors to help direct energy within your space and feel the energy surrounding you bring the vitality and harmony in your life.

The messages put across, whether productive or hazardous, are packaged with a skill and are most forceful.

It plays a vital role in our popular culture, often reflecting elements picked from reality and blowing them out of proportions for exaggerated effect. With attractive and colorful images, the jingles are hard to get out of your mind and at times many of us are unconsciously found humming a TV Commercial which has a catchy tune. The images, powerful melodies, all in all not only are effectively persuading us to buy their product but in doing so, are instilling many concepts as they go about it.

Do we ever pause to think how many ads come our way while commuting or even staying indoors? We come across them through radio, magazines, TV, billboards, flyers. They.are.everywhere! How are these ads dictating our lifestyle? Are we buying a particular product because it has an aesthetically pleasing TVC or is the brand being endorsed by our favorite celebrity? How much influence does it have on us, knowing that a certain item might not be economical to our pocket or the ideal choice for our needs but it still drives us to make that particular choice?

There are a number of factors that could trigger our choices and decisions made behind an option but are those the right ideal reasons? Does owning a particular label ensure our happiness? Is it that it unconsciously sells us some other messages which we aren’t even aware of?

Have you ever bought a product or purchased an item because of its quality or your need behind it, or was it for any other reason? Do we ever ask ourselves those questions?

How much is our active consciousness involved behind our choices? Does it even dictate a culture that is truly ours? How many concepts of happiness are instilled into our minds through such advertisements and how susceptible are we to actively own up to them and get influenced?

Do ask yourself these questions next time you decide or put across your choice for a brand. It’s time we start decoding what is dictated to us actively and consciously!

A famous art collection which was thought to be a Dutch Golden Age painting has actually been proven to be a fake, painted by a forger.

The Procuress was believed to be a 17th century anonymous duplicate of a 1620s brothel scene by Dutch master Dirck van Baburen, reports The Telegraph.

A show on BBC, Fake of Fortune, has revealed the picture is a forgery by Han van Meegeren, a Dutch forger who died in 1947.

In 2009, the respected Art Newspaper said that curators at the Courtauld and the National Gallery (NG) believed the painting had “every appearance of being of 17th-century origin”.

The scientific tests done as interrogation for the BBC programme, detected a ‘synthetic resin similar to Bakelite mixed into the paints to mimic age’.

Philip Mould, an Old Masters dealer, headed the research. He has a record for finding genuine art.

He said: “Some of the most prominent specialists … have speculated that it is a 17th-century picture – but … Bakelite was [Van Meegeren’s] unique fingerprint.”

Read it at The Telegraph.

This chair, as you can see, somehow seems to be defying the law of gravity. Is it?

You can clearly see that it’s standing on one leg which is impossible. However, artist Peter Bristol has turned it into a possibility with the use of his brain.

According to Mashable, he’s the lead designer at the Seattle-based product development consultancy Carbon Design Group, well-known for its design of products for Microsoft and many others.

This ‘Cut Chair’ designed by him has a secret to it. Did you notice that there’s a rug underneath the chair? Bingo! That’s where the secret lies.

There’s support for the chair underneath the brown rug.

The chair comes along with the rug. I hope your favourite colour is brown.

It’s in the prototype stage while Bristol is searching for a partner to build it for multiple installations of mass production, says Mashable.

Kids and teenagers would love to have this in their room as the main attraction. A cool piece of furniture to show-off with.
